A Little Bit of History
A Little Bit of History

Dickerson Park Zoo has been part of the Ozarks' landscape. The zoo opened in its current location in 1923 on land that dates back to 1837, and a 120-acre pioneer homestead established by Joshua Davis.

The land was sold to the Springfield Park Board in 1922, and the city park at Phelps Grove (complete with a small zoo) was moved there.
